John's Wort is an herbal product that is available in natural food stores and pharmacies. It is often used for the treatment of mild depression or low mood.
New information has recently become available regarding a significant interaction
between St. John's Wort and Indinavir (Crixivan®). St. John's Wort has been shown to significantly lowerindinavir (Crixivan) levels by almost 60%.
This may reduce the effectiveness of your anti-HIV regimen, and possibly lead to increases in viral load and/or drug resistance. What effect will St. John's Wort have on other HIV medications?
St. John's Wort may also decrease levels of other HIV drugs, such as:

Protease Inhibitors
- Nelfinavir (Viracept® )
- Amprenavir (Agenerase®)
- Ritonavir (Norvir® )
- Saquinavir (Fortovase® /Invirase®)
- ABT-378 (lopinavir)

Non-Nucleoside Reverse Transcriptase Inhibitors
- Efavirenz (Sustiva® )
- Nevirapine (Viramune® )
- Delavirdine (Rescriptor® )

Therefore, it is recommended to AVOID taking St. John's Wort while on any of these HIV medications.What should I do if I am taking St. John's Wort?
